SUMMARY:Jesuit Refugee Service Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Fr. Dan Corrou\, S.J. is the Regional Director of Mid-East and North Africa Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). He resides in Beirut Lebanon where he is the pastor of St. Joseph’s Church which also serves as a shelter for refugees and the displaced. Father Carrou first went to Beirut in 2011 to study Arabic during his Jesuit Regency\, a period of formation prior to ordination. Born in Saratoga Springs and a member of the Jesuits USA East Province\, he will be discussing his first hand experiences in working with refugees and other displaced people. There are about 300\,000 refugees in greater Beirut which amounts to about 20% of the population. When Pope Leo visited the Middle East a few weeks ago\, he heard from a JRS team member at the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon. After Fr. Corrou’s talk\, there will be a Q&A session. JRS describes its mission as accompanying\, serving\, and advocating on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons\, enabling them to heal\, learn\, and determine their own future in community. They accompany refugees in over 55 countries worldwide.
